What Happens if You Overdose on CBD? Is It Safe?
I searched a lot online before taking CBD, and overdosing was my prime concern. My concerns were extinguished by learning that CBD is non-psychoactive unlike the THC, another compound present in cannabis. Before my discovery about the amazing benefits of CBD, I was suffering from insomnia.
It started when I had a major life crisis due to career issues. Literally, I would be restless all throughout the night even after a long day of work and before bedtime exercise. I tried the traditional means of promoting sleep like drinking a glass of milk, tiring my eyes watching TV, listening to a relaxing music, and even doing yoga. However, I just couldn’t have a good night’s rest.
Insomnia Almost Made Me Insane
I consulted a sleep doctor, endocrinologist, and even an acupuncturist. To the extent, I also set up an appointment with a psychiatrist because I thought I was going into depression or maybe an early psychiatric disorder. Just as I thought, my doctor told me that I was suffering from depression, so I took an antidepressant for 6 months. I had to adhere to the dosage, and it improved my condition.
However, the sleepless nights remained. It started days, then weeks, and then months.
Many thoughts were running through my mind, and although I was feeling better, insomnia almost made me insane. I would end up munching pizza and chocolate, as well as soda and ice cream in the middle of the night. I gained weight, and worse, I ended up only restless and tired the morning after.
My best friend recommended CBD. I was really hesitant at first because what I only knew about CBD was that it is derived from cannabis. She told me that it is actually derived from hemp, which has the same family with cannabis. At least she convinced me, along with the online research I did.
How CBD Helped Me
I have a trusted and reliable best friend who gave me my first CBD ever. I had it administered sublingually or under the tongue for a faster effect. I started with 25 mg twice a day for a week. After which, I increased the dosage to 50 mg twice a day that gave me my first 4 hours of relaxing sleep in the second week. I found solitude with a 100 mg once a day before bedtime on the 4th week from the time I started.
I really appreciate CBD because it helped me recover from insomnia. Now, I can enjoy a full 6 to 8 hours of restful sleep. I know life is full of challenges, and with CBD helping me, I also benefited from the analgesic properties.
I can sit all day long in front of my computer without the usual back pain. I can enjoy strenuous exercise without easily getting tired and play with my blue bulldog tirelessly. I know time has healed my worries about my career, and along with CBD, I am enjoying my life to the fullest.
How Much Is Considered Too Much(in Mgs)
I read at the website of the US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, that there was a clinical trial based on a 6-week period with the use of daily CBD oral administration for 700 mg. The mean plasma concentrations obtained in the study using chronic and high CBD dose did not increase. There are also people who take 300 mg of CBD doses every day and even as high as 1200 to 1500 mg daily for 4 weeks safely without overdosing.
In my case, I take 100 mg daily, and sometimes, I take 200 mg. Starting at a lower dose is better if you are a beginner. I started as low as 25 mg and then 50 mg, and I gradually increased it to 75 mg and to 100 mg. You’ll feel if you need more. It helped me improve the quality of my sleep.
Like cannabis, there are no pieces of evidence showing any morbidity using CBD. Unlike alcohol, prescription, and even over-the-counter drugs with side effects and adverse effects, CBD doesn’t pose any physiological effects on blood sugar levels, heart rate, blood pressure, pH levels, respiration, and electrolytes. There are also no known negative effects on perception, sensory awareness, consciousness, behavior, or reaction time.
It Is Worth Sharing
I decided to share my personal experience because I know this will serve as an inspiration to many people who have doubts and concerns about CBD. This serves as a testimony to the great benefits CBD can give us, most especially when it comes to managing sleep disorders like insomnia.
It’s been years since I first used CBD. I am more confident to face the world because my drive to continue fighting and living, along with CBD, encouraged me to become a better person and enjoy what I have. I want to live my life happily, with a healthier body and mind.
Allow me to take this opportunity to thank my best friend, Sunshine, and CBD for changing my life 360 degrees. Now, I am sleeping sounder and better more than ever!
