How safe is CBD oil for Children: Let’s Find out!
If you had asked me years ago if I would consider giving my child CBD oil to treat his or her physical discomforts due to sickness, I would probably answer you with a puzzled stare. The stigma on cannabis use has always been associated with negativity. Unfortunately, it has led to more people missing out on a truly remarkable product. I for one used to be one of these people affected by media’s representation of cannabis, but all this changed.
Science vs. Fiction
I first started reconsidering my personal views on the product when a good friend swore by CBD oil’s ability to treat his severe body pains. I got interested because I was looking for alternative medications to treat my son’s chronic pains, but I also had my doubts on this “wonder oil.”
While I’ve known my buddy for years, and yes I trusted him, I didn’t want to take his word for it. After a skeptical (and admittedly judge-y) “Yeah right, show me proof,” he immediately pointed me in the direction of several articles on the effects of cannabis, specifically CBD oil. Challenged, and a little bit curious, I did my own moseying around the internet, until I found myself some legitimate articles on cannabinoids.
Let’s begin with the facts: Cannabidiol or CBD is a form of cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. It is different from another cannabinoid known as tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the ingredient that gives you that “high” when you ingest it. So you don’t have to worry about your kids experiencing this should you use CBD oil on them.
Further research led me to this particular study done by Ethan B. Russo. In this study, it was proven cannabinoids can serve as a mild analgesic and can also treat several central neuropathic pain symptoms. (You can read the full article here too if you want to know more about the study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2503660/
Well, I certainly couldn’t doubt science, could I?
CBD oil, in particular, is a fascinating product. Not only is it convenient and easy to use, but it also addresses a WIDE range of health concerns. And I do mean wide. It has been proven effective in treating autism, sensory processing disorders, anxiety, mental illness, physical pain, and even focus issues and insomnia.
I haven’t even covered the half of it, but I can attest that CBD oil is seemingly an all-natural panacea, also because I’ve used it myself. Our bodies are receptive to cannabinoids because we have our own endocannabinoid system (ECS). When CBD reacts with our naturally occurring endocannabinoids, it helps us with better regulation of sleep, pain, and the other functions of our immune system. CBD will not interfere with the brain’s system, so it is ideally not used for recreational purposes.
One of the most interesting factoids I’ve come across is that most infants (and well, people) have already consumed cannabinoids very early in their lifetime. Did you know that endocannabinoids are naturally occurring cannabinoids found in breast milk?! Mind. Blowing.
Endocannabinoids, if we’re going to be specific, make up a particular type of neuromodulatory lipid that guides the infant’s suckling process and essentially teaches them how to eat. Not only do they learn how to eat, that’s where they get their appetite for food. Without this during infancy, they could experience severe malnourished and even death.
Endocannabinoids are significantly responsible for a young infant’s growth and development. At the risk of sounding dramatic, I wouldn’t say, “Cannabis is life,” unless, well, it is.

Graded A by Mothers
Take it from someone who used to be skeptical about cannabinoids in general. I admit that in an effort to disprove my friend, I turned the tables on myself. The more I read about it and saw actual video testimonies, the more convinced I became.
What I also found compelling are the numerous testimonies of mothers who have vouched for the wonders of CBD oil. And if you don’t trust science, or even the internet, you can definitely trust mothers. They will always want the best for their children, and believe me they won’t patronize a product that easily.
I’ve come across several testimonies from mothers desperate to ease their kids’ pain, and only CBD oil has worked for them. Also, when a mother finds a solution that works, they WILL rave about it. I doubt any decent mother would subject their children to something unsafe and ineffective, let alone let the whole world know how it cured them.
Final Thoughts on CBD Oil
I can honestly say that when it comes to CBD oil, I have made a full 180-degree turn (because 360 gets you back to where you came from, right?) from skeptic to advocate. The most telling reason is that I have seen the effects of CBD oil on my son myself and how it has not only helped soothe his physical pain but has even cleared up his blemishes from eczema. (The latter was a surprise benefit my boy was equally pleased to discover.)
I highly encourage people to keep reading and doing their research instead of making a quick judgment on cannabinoids just because of the stigma attached to it. If you think about it, CBD oil is much more safe and healthy for us than most of the things we consume on a daily basis.
Can you imagine all the carcinogens and chemicals our bodies ingest when we eat fast food, drink soda, or choose processed meats? I mean, do we honestly know what all these ingredients contain, and do they seem better just because they’re “legal”?
Perhaps if we also did some research, we would start rethinking our choices. In the same way, that further knowledge and open-mindedness on CBD oil could change our lives, or the lives of people we know who are suffering from pain, especially our children. As mothers, we are obligated to keep an eye on their health and well-being.
